FAQ
What is covered in A Level Mechanics 1?
Mechanics 1 covers: Modelling & Assumptions, Vectors in Mechanics, Kinematics (SUVAT), Dynamics (F=ma), Momentum & Impulse, Friction, Statics of a Particle, and Moments.
What is the SUVAT formula?
SUVAT equations relate displacement (s), initial velocity (u), final velocity (v), acceleration (a), and time (t): v=u+at, s=ut+½at², v²=u²+2as, s=½(u+v)t, s=vt-½at².
How do you solve connected particles problems?
For connected particles: 1) Draw force diagrams for each particle, 2) Write F=ma for each particle, 3) Use the constraint that acceleration is the same, 4) Solve the simultaneous equations.
When do you use F=μR vs F≤μR?
Use F=μR when friction is at its limiting (maximum) value - when the object is about to move or moving. Use F≤μR when the object is stationary and friction hasn't reached its limit.
How long is the Mechanics 1 exam?
The Edexcel IAL Mechanics 1 (WME01) exam is 1 hour 30 minutes and worth 75 marks. It's a calculator paper.
